Pay Yourself First

Do you agree that this seems like a pretty good idea?

Pay yourself first, and then pay others with what is left over.

I first heard the idea about 20 years ago when I read The Richest Man in Babylon. Given that it was 20-years ago, I remember very little specifically about the book, apart from the idea of FIRST taking a percentage of your income for yourself (I think it was 10%) and then you can pay out the remainder to ‘others’.

And just to be clear from the outset.

This is not the article about how to make lots of $$$$$.

Sorry.

I am drawing on that philosophy, and mixing it with a conversation I had down the beach with a great couple who also happen to own a great Korean restaurant in Pererenan, Bali (which makes a yummy Bibimbap), and which I feel deserves a plug (Soogi Roll).

So, we are not going to talk money, but we are going to be talking of a greater currency called: LIFE FORCE.

Best Steps to Overcoming Obstacles

Today we are going to talk about how you can overcome any obstacles in your life, in the best way (i.e. best result with the least energy).

I LOVE overcoming obstacles.

And probably why I was in the Royal Australian Engineers, as an officer for 14 years. We were taught a lot about how to overcome obstacles on the battlefield. It definitely involved some exploding stuff, but it also came done to our CREATIVITY. Why expend more effort and resources than you need to (or have at your disposal).

So that’s our focus today.

How can you effectively overcome obstacles with the least amount of effort?

This is the NUMBER 1 thing I do when coaching. Help people overcome obstacles, so they reach the destination of their choosing – in the best mental and physical health.

There is no point in being so battered and bruised from getting through an obstacle, that you don’t have the energy to go on.

We are about smarter, not harder.

How to Turn Negative Events (& People) into a Positive

TURNING OUR PAST INTO WISDOM

Lately I have been going even deeper into the practical work of Dr Joe Dispenza (teacher, neuroscientist, author and he who is challenging what is ‘normal’).

I am watching testimonials, listening to Q&A sessions, doing more meditations, and re-reading his books (e.g. Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself).

One of his testimonials is of a woman healing herself from the multiple sclerosis (MS). Pretty epic. Plus a guy got feeling back into his fingers after 48 years. The list goes on, and on…(there are over 600 testimonials).

One of Dr Joe’s quotes is:

“The past without the emotion is (potential) wisdom.”

I added the ‘potential’ word as I feel that having wisdom is different from the right application of wisdom. It takes consciousness to make potential wisdom into REAL WORLD wisdom that leads to a positive outcome.

So with Dr Joe as our inspiration and frame of reference, I want to look at how we can change our past NEGATIVE stuff (and the emotions that come with it), into WISDOM. Plus fuel for our EVOLUTION.

It is Time for Some Relationship Tips

I suspect you are unlikely to guess what my #1 Relationship Tip is.

A bit of back ground first, so we have some ‘context’.

(Side Tip: The context – also known as the bigger picture – is so important when it comes to communication, and even making high quality decisions. Getting clear of the context first, is a great habit to have)

So…

I was hanging out with a colleague the other day, who is high-vibe, and also a fan of Dr Joe Dispenza’s work (which helps be a high-vibe person), and they mentioned something about me and the books I have written (5 and counting). They also mentioned it would be great if I created a program on how to write and publish a book – so keep an eye out for that, as I LOVE to teach what I have learned along the way.

Now a bit over 10 years ago I set one of those big hairy audacious goals. I committed to writing 5 books in 10 years.

And ticked it off in 2020.

I had also decided to write The Guidebook Series, with a book on each of the following subjects: happiness, health, success, relationships and spirituality.

I actually wrote the first 3 books and then took a detour when I got to a ‘guidebook’ on how to create amazing relationships.

Do you want to know WHY … and what it confirmed for me?

An Essential Practice for Thriving

Today, instead of a question, let’s start with a quote.

The cave you fear to enter is where your treasure lies.” Joseph Campbell (developed the framework of The Hero’s Journey)

I will do a deeper dive, in a future post, on The Hero’s Journey, but for now let’s look at the essence of his work.

And here is my challenge for the warrior in you…

Don’t bugger off, or tell yourself you are too busy to read this, or any other excuse if I say something that you don’t necessarily want to hear.

Things like … to STRUGGLE (at times) is pretty essential to meaningful thriving.

You may not want to hear that.

What are you Resisting?

You might know by now, that I love to ask questions. So…

What in your life, right now, are you resisting?

(Whether that is a little or a lot)

It really is a great question to start the illumination and growth process. Sort of like the sun shining on a seed in order to help it grow. You are the seed and the illumination in this case is the gaze of your CURIOUS and consciously aware mind.

In fact, to get the most out of this growth experience, you will also be adding another ‘superfood’ ingredient to the mix…COURAGE.

This article is inspired by a colleague of mine – Leah – a fellow explorer of life and its meaning (and also the author of a very cool book called Drawn Together: Uplifting Comics on the Curious Journey Through Life and Love).

Leah told me that my article on creating our ideal lifestyle was a total trigger for her. She experienced a whole bunch of RESISTANCE to the activity where you evaluate what your ideal lifestyle might look like. Therefore with Leah’s permission, and my own curiosity, let’s see what we can learn from her experience.

Your Destiny, Decision-Making, and Sound Bites

Let’s continue with this wonderful subject of how to make your life more AWESOME.

But first it is question time…

Would you like to be an effective CO-CREATOR in your Destiny (as opposed to being at the whim of ‘fate’ or other peoples personal agenda’s)?

I am guessing you said “Yes”.

Next question…

How important do you think the quality of your decision-making would be when it comes to being this potent and powerful co-creator of your destiny?

I am also guessing you said “VERY (or #%@#&) Important!”, or words to that effect.

Cool. We are on the same sheet of music.

And just so you understand my background when it comes to this decision-making thing (so I have some street cred): I have a combination of 14-years as an officer in the army; 5 years security consulting to Olympic Games and mega events; 14 years coaching; training in NLP and hypnotherapy; and wrote a book last year called ‘Decision Making Mastery’.

So, are you with me?

Are You Living According to YOUR Plan?

What is your plan

I just finished having a Part 2 Podcast conversation with fellow coaching colleague of mine – Sharon Cavanaugh – where we delved deeper into what tools, tips and strategies we have in our arsenal to best serve ourselves and our clients when it comes to turning the dial up on life.

We switched around different topics, but there is one I want to focus on today.

It relates to the question:

Are you (a) doing what you love to do, or (b) what you have become good at?

We could also interchange the list of (b) options with…

…or what people think you should be doing?

…or what you think you should be doing?

…or what your parents wanted you to do?

…or what you get the most recognition from?

…etc.

Beliefs, Flexibility and Increasing Happiness

Level up happiness

You may or may not know that working with beliefs is one of my favourite subjects. One of my books called – The Successful Mind – is all about our beliefs, our thinking, our ‘thoughting’ and how they influence not only our emotional state, but what results we ultimately get in life.

(If you want to listen to a free version of that audiobook, check out the Life Masterclass Podcast channel)

The hypothesis I want to put forward today is that your flexibility when it comes to your beliefs, has a significant impact on how gracefully and easefully you navigate your way through life.

Hands up if – as a small person – you believed in Santa Clause?

Do you still believe in Santa Clause?

I am guess that if you did and you are over the age of 20 (and not living with mum and dad) you might be pretty disappointed when you Xmas tree is still bereft of presents on the 26th of December.
