Great Strategy to Deal with Overwhelm

Hands up if you experience overwhelm occasionally (or a lot).

Hands up if you are human.

Chances are that if you are human you have experienced, do experience, or are currently experiencing, overwhelm.

We have all been there and done that.

So what I want to focus on today, is how to move through, and beyond, overwhelm as ease-fully as possible.

I often work with clients to take them beyond overwhelm into the ‘now I have got this sh#t figured out‘ realm.

My suggested strategy is also inspired by a great book I was recommended (thanks Tom!) called ‘The Master And His Emissary‘ by Iain McGilchrist. It is looking at the similarities and differences between the brain hemispheres, given they are actually asymmetrical.

Fascinating stuff.

But now let’s make it practical.

5 Ways We Accidently Make Life Harder Than It Needs to be

Hands up if you want a ‘hard’ life?

I am guessing we had about 0% of hands showing.

I reckon the numbers would swing back to approximately 100% if I asked who wants more PEACE in their lives!

Who wouldn’t?

So let’s imagine at one end of the spectrum there is HARD and the other end is PEACE.

This article is about what we mostly ‘unconsciously’ (or accidentally) do, which sends us closer to the HARD end of the spectrum, and what we can do to move closer to the PEACE end of town.

So let’s dive straight in with the first way we make life harder.

How Not to Make Terrible Decisions

This post might save you an inordinate amount of pain in your butt.

And who wouldn’t want a bit less of that?

You know I am big on decision-making, and how it shapes our reality.

I also have a lot of experience in the decision-making space, having not only written a book on it (Decision Making Mastery), but also having attended one of top leadership academies in the world (Royal Military College, Duntroon), was an Army Officer for 14 years, did consulting on bomb management to a bunch of Olympic Games, and been coaching for over 15 years.

I am not tooting my trumpet.

I just want to let you know I have some experience in the topic of decision-making, and how not to suck at it.

Sucking at it, is something I find is pretty common (unfortunately).

And the consequences are significant and make peoples lives much harder than they need to be.

I have also paid extra attention to a blind-spot playing out in a number (most) of my clients of late.

And because I am super curious, I am now even more clear about what the issue is.

Which is something you will DEFINITELY benefit from.

So let’s walk through the process.

Without This Insight, Great Decisions are Unlikely

You know I love the art and science of Decision-Making.

And I am sure you are all aware that the quality of your decisions, shape the quality of your life.

Bad work decisions can lead to loss of money or loss of job.

Bad financial decisions can lead to being broke, or indebted, or in possession of a share portfolio where the zero’s keep disappearing.

Bad relationship decisions…well, I think I don’t need to elaborate on that.

You get the point.

It’s important to be good at this thing – this thing called DECISION-MAKING.

So I want to focus on at least one element today, which is based on the very simple graphic below.

It’s looking at the relationship between reality and story when it comes to decision-making.

And of course if you want to go even deeper, check out my book Decision Making Mastery.

Merging Money, Consciousness and Knowledge

Welcome back.

Last week we spoke about Health (and root causes) and this week we will be talking about MONEY.

Especially as many people might have a bit less at this time of the year (January) after Christmas and the end of year (and start of year) festivities.

You know I am a big fan of Wisdom (knowledge + experience).

Increasing wisdom grants us the opportunity to make better choices (and co-create our destiny).

So I have been curious to better understand things like Digital ID’s, digital currencies (e.g. Bitcoin, etc.), central bank digital currencies, and the likes; as money impacts us all.

I recently watched a Dutch-produced documentary called State of Control and I also read a book by of one of the presenters (Brett Scott), called ‘Cloud Money‘, which was quite insightful. Plus one of my favourite reads in 2021 was ‘Your Money or Your Life‘ by Vicki Robin.

Why Use Only 1 Brain When You Have 3 Brains?

Yes, I said 3!

And no, I have not lost the plot or been smoking weed (as a new hobby).

All will be revealed very shortly.

And then you will get to reap the benefits.

If you have heard me talk about this before, my apologies, but I am going to hazard a guess that you could benefit from a wee reminder.

For those new to your powerful, potent and task-specific 3 brains, let’s journey on.

Remember; the better we optimize our brains, the better decisions we make, and the greater Destiny we co-create.

WOOHOO!!

How to Get Sh#t Done and Prepare for Curve Balls

Most of my last 20+ years has been trying to figure out how I can make stuff happen (in my favour and with the least amount of energy) and how I can teach others what I have learned.

What works a little, a lot, or not at all.

Last week I talked about building up the Leader within us, and how being a greater leader is ESSENTIAL when it comes to optimizing our experience in life.

The other part of the optimizing-life-and-results-game is not only coming up with the great ideas and insights, but actually acting on them.

You, like me, probably know a lot of ‘great ideas’ people, who spend a lot of time marching on the spot and getting not much actually done.

Ideas are great, but it’s the execution of those ideas that brings them into being.

So…

How do we make sh#t happen, when it takes effort and energy (and sometimes we just don’t feel like doing it)?

Enter left of stage our inner WARRIOR.

Or to be more precise; enter from the very core of our gut, the part of us that gets stuff done…even when we don’t feel like it.

I believe all of us have a Warrior spirit within us.

Unfortunately, sometimes the Warrior needs more prodding and poking to ‘wake it up’.

It’s like our inner Warrior is still working off the after effects of an all-nighter and 3 bottles of red.

Does Your (Life) Playbook Need an Upgrade?

The answer to the question in the title, as it relates to me, is a big YES!

And I don’t just need a touch-up or a solid rewrite.

I actually threw my old Playbook out and decided to write a new one from scratch.

Sort of like a post 2021 version, and it is an evolving document, because I am always learning and the world and its systems are going through major changes.

Take this last last week for example…

I was in a pretty high level of pain (9/10) for the first 3.5 days of the week; in my lower middle back, side of hips and top of my glutes (butt cheeks). I was getting around like a 90-year old grandpa, well before my time.

Since I have a pretty solid playbook on how to deal with body pain, I got to work.

It consisted of Dr Joe Dispenza’s 75-min guided meditations (Blessings of the Energy Centres) at least 2 times a day. Supplements. Clean, clean eating. Less food in general, so not too much energy was used for digestion, instead of healing. Plenty of sleep. Relaxation. Rest. Rescheduling coaching sessions until next week.

This worked pretty well.

Emotional Eating Does Not Solve The Root Cause

In order to keep these conversations with you relevant, I like to draw on real-life experiences I am exposed to (generally with my coaching clients).

This was as a result of a conversation with a client the other day.

The context is they wanted to better understand why (exactly) – when they are upset – they quaff a couple of glasses of wine, while snacking thorough a bunch of chocolate bars.

I think we might all identify this as ’emotional eating’.

You experience a negative emotional state, which leads to binge eating.

And unfortunately, the binge eating generally does not involve carrot or celery sticks and a homemade organic dip.

It is most often high calorie, low nutrient, foods.

Why? Why? Why?

And what to do?

A Super Effective Life Master Plan Practice

This is ESSENTIAL when it comes to the fulfillment of your Life Master Plan.

It is also essential if you want to have a lifestyle experience, which is in alignment with your actual MOST DESIRED Lifestyle.

It is also essential if you don’t want to get lost on your life path, or follow a path that is unfulfilling, or even painful.

They (people) stay in un-fun, unfulfilling, crappy, soul destroying, disruptive, painful, and emotionally draining WAY LONGER than is necessary, intelligent or good for them and their physical and mental health.

Firstly, WHY??

And then, HOW do we make sure we are not one of those statistics?
