TIMOR LESTE (EAST TIMOR)
East Timor was only admitted to the United Nations in 2002. So I like to think of East Timor as one of our youngest global siblings. But it hasn’t been an easy road for East Timor. They suffered greatly under a very brutal military occupation for over 20 years, leaving more than 100,000 conflict-related deaths and many more casualties with serious physical and emotional scars. But we are not here to relive past wrongs; we are about looking to the future and helping out where we can.
The key charity organisation that we work with in East Timor is Life, Love and Health; which was founded in 2002 with an aim to empower the local Non Government Organisations (NGO’s), so that they rebuild not only their country but themselves along the way.
One fund raising activity provided refurbishments to a residential blind school in Same (which is south of the capital Dili). We were able to provide them with a new toilet / shower and kitchen facility.
OTHER PROJECTS
A micro loan to a Philippine small business owner so that he could purchase a water truck to service the local community. So far he has had some challenges, but learning a lot along the way.
A micro loan to an Indian small business owner in West Bengal, India, so that he could construct a small grocery store. He ended up finishing the construction, but was short of funds to open it. Again he is learning a lot about business (and budgeting) along the way.
Some financial and physical support (kids day out at the safari park) to some of the local orphanages in Bali.
So if you would like to help out or get involved in any of the charity work we are involved with then send me an email: carl@carlmassy.com
