Charity

Ever wonder why some of the smartest, most successful and richest people in the world are starting to become amazing philanthropists? Perhaps there is some economic gain, or perhaps…just maybe…they have realised that having all the financial wealth in the world doesn’t actually make you feel great about yourself at a deeper level.

A study was done at a university where students were ask to undertake two activities and then report on the level and duration of ‘happiness’, during and after the activities. One of the activities was to spend a day doing one of their favourite fun activities and the other was to do a day of charity work. The results weren’t that surprising. The students found that their level of happiness and the continuation of that happiness after they completed the activity was FAR greater for the day that they spent doing charity work than the day doing their most fun activity.

Contributing to others is not only something that makes us feel great. Without a sense of contributing beyond ourselves (and our immediate family & friends) it is harder to feel true joy within yourself. We are created for compassion, connection and contribution.
