Are we really Different?

Different People

I am always surprised and amazed that any two people on the planet can actually agree on the same thing. And for people to actually have a number of things that they agree with and believe together – well that is as bizarre for me as a gel that is made from the bark of a cocoa tree that increases hair growth.  Why am I so surprised?

I have worked with a lot of people over the years, and met a lot of people in the last 40 years and I am yet to meet two people that have had the same upbringing, experiences, teachers, partners, friendships, siblings, parents, ideas, thoughts, dreams, beliefs, priorities, etc. Essentially everyone is COMPLETELY different. Completely unique. No one has the same fingerprint, so no-one absolutely has the same body or mind. I am sure you get my point. We are all different.

So why then do we get annoyed when someone does not agree with us, see our point of view or chooses to live differently than us?? If we know that everyone is unique, is it a little bit naïve of us, to wonder why someone does not agree with us? And is it even more insane that we get angry, annoyed, and frustrated when this happens?

So my point is this. We are all different (I think you all get this ;-)). Because we are all different be ok with someone having a different way of doing things, seeing things or perceiving things. Start from the point of reference, which acknowledges first and foremost that we are all different and then celebrate the times where we do agree with another person. Be ok with people having different ideas or ways of doing things. Most of the time one way is neither right nor wrong. There are numerous ways that most tasks or activities can be undertaken to achieve a certain result.

And don’t allow yourself to get angry, annoyed or frustrated because someone has had a different life teacher than you. Accept the difference and work towards the sameness, because that is a lot more fun and involves a lot less stress than trying to change something that is.
