Swine (5 letters) Flu (3 letters) = a total of 8 letters. But I am sure that the mere sight of this combination of letters has the potential to create a host of dark pictures or thoughts that could spiral out of control across your mind. Actually, while we are talking about thoughts, what are your first thoughts when you see the following statistics?
A:3500 deaths per month
B: 63 deaths per month
Which activity are you likely to avoid the most? Which has the highest risk? Which is the one that you should have the greatest fear as a result of the numbers and probability? It is a pretty simple answer and I am sure that you may be starting to see where I am leading with this.
The real question that you need to ask is which one of these numbers receives the broadest, most sensational, repetitious, global mass media attention? And that question is the real key. It is not the biggest number that has the greatest impact – it is the fear that is generated by the media in relation to these numbers. And unfortunately fear = people glued to the TV or buying printed media. And even more unfortunate is when we as individuals let someone else, like the media (who may or may not have ulterior motives), determine how we live our lives. Whether we do or don’t travel. Whether we go to see our favourite band at a big live event or just stay at home because then we are going to be much ‘safer’ than being in a crowded place.
Ok; enough of me on my soapbox. I apologise and stand down. And I will also let you know what A and B represent. ‘A’ is motor vehicle accidents in the
But the main message I want to give you out of this is: treat your body as well as you possibly can and it will be in its best possible condition to ward of any illness that comes your way, so that you can walk through life completely free of fear. You already know some of the basics, but here are some points to refresh your memory (and commitment):
-
Perform physical activities regularly
-
Eat less (to none) processed foods and more fresh fruit and vegetables (live foods)
-
Drink plenty of water
-
Get adequate rest (6-8 hrs a night)
-
Breathe fresh air into your lungs
-
Focus your thoughts on what you do want – 'great health & vitality'
-
Have even more faith in life
So my apologies if I ranted a little there. It is just that I love to see people living their own lives as fully as they can. Not living in fear because someone implied that they should. It is like in a relationship. If you be the best person you can be, then you know that the other person will love and respect you. If you love and respect your body, then it will do everything possible to protect you from any harm.
Keep it real (and don’t buy into all the media’s doom and gloom)...my last rant...sorry.
